Shawn Buddenhagen
I had been running and bike racing for five years, when some friends talked me into racing a triathlon. It was an Olympic distance with a 1500M bay swim. The current shifted during the swim, and unprepared, I splashed and flailed my way through the swim. I would call it controlled drowning. I suffered my way through the bike and run, and I crossed the line exhausted. Most importantly, I crossed the line with a smile on my face, I was hooked.
I’ve gone on to complete a couple of IM’s, marathons, and ultra distance events. It all started with that first event, and I want to help others start their own journey. Through training and racing I have met some inspiring people, that are dedicated to a healthy lifestyle.
Over my years of racing, I have come across many people just starting out with the sport. They are always enthusiastic, and have tons of questions about completing their first race. My goal with First Time Triathlete is to support those new to the sport, with easy to access info and encouragement.
Do you have any specific questions not answered on the blog? Please contact me, I am happy to help.

Shawn
Thanks for the like! My first Oly Tri is next week and I’m refusing to plan my for my birthday 10 days later because I feel that’s overconfident…
